Find Federal Release Records

To find someone released from the Federal Bureau of Prisons, search the nationwide BOP locator and read the status and date together. A federal defendant from Midland can be confined far outside the county, held first by the U.S. Marshals Service, or placed in community corrections while still in BOP custody. Midland County’s jail list and TDCJ search do not supply the federal release record. A reliable federal release lookup separates transfer, RRM placement, home confinement, completed BOP release, and later court-ordered supervised release.

BOP Federal Release Paths

Federal Bureau of Prisons institutions form a national system. No institution can be assigned solely because a case arose in Midland. A sentenced person may move through BOP facilities, an RRM office, a residential reentry center, or home confinement. Transfer among those settings continues federal custody.

A BOP result marked Released or Not in BOP Custody with a past date establishes departure from BOP custody on that date. It does not prove the person had no state, local, or immigration detainer. It also does not end a supervised-release term imposed by the federal court. A future release date is projected and can change.

Search BOP Release Records

The BOP Inmate Locator primarily covers federal custody and releases from 1982 forward. Search first with the register number. A name search can use age, race, and sex to narrow results. Open the match and preserve each label.

Use this federal sequence:

  1. Search the exact register number when known.
  2. Match the name and stable identifying fields.
  3. Read location or status before the date.
  4. Treat RRM, home confinement, and transit as custody.
  5. After release, check the judgment for supervision.

A future date, RRM placement, home confinement, Unknown status, or In Transit label does not prove completed BOP release.

Older federal cases may require National Archives research. A federal pretrial detainee managed by USMS may not yet have a useful BOP record. In that stage, the Western District of Texas docket explains the case and custody orders. The Midland released-inmate search supplies the separate county path.

BOP Federal Record Fields

The BOP public result normally identifies the person by name and register number and can show age, race, sex, location or status, and a release date. The register number is the durable federal key. The date must be read beside the status. A past date with Released or Not in BOP Custody confirms departure from BOP custody, while a future date is a projection rather than an accomplished event.

The federal judgment supplies the sentence and any supervised-release term. Later docket orders can modify supervision or explain a court release. Records beyond the locator follow BOP or Department of Justice records procedures, including applicable identity certification. A narrow request should identify the register number, institution or RRM if known, date range, and exact existing release or custody document sought.

Release
Departure from BOP custody, which may still lead to another lawful custodian.
Transfer
Movement between institutions, an RRM, or another agency, not release.
Discharge
Completion of custody is distinct from a later supervised-release end date.
Detainer
A legal hold that can redirect the person when BOP custody ends.

BOP Search and Contact Routes

No single Midland address can represent Federal Bureau of Prisons institutions nationwide. The researched public contact route is the BOP locator for custody and release fields. The Western District of Texas docket supplies the judgment and later court orders. USMS controls many federal pretrial and court-related movements, but it does not publish a durable county-style release list.

Three official sources answer different questions. The BOP locator supplies the public federal custody result. The BOP community-corrections information explains RRM and prerelease placement. The federal court record explains the judgment and supervised release. Midland County’s open-records form applies only to county-held records, not BOP files.

Federal Custody Beyond Midland

A federal arrest or prosecution in the Midland division does not predict the institution. USMS can use local or contract detention before judgment, then transfer a sentenced person into BOP. BOP can designate a facility outside Texas. The county of arrest, federal court division, current institution, and eventual release location are separate facts.

RRM San Antonio covers the Western District of Texas and oversees contract reentry placements. An RRM result is not a prison address in Midland and is not completed release. A residential reentry center or home-confinement placement can give the person community access while the custodial sentence continues under BOP authority.

When the Midland jail list loses a person who had a federal marker, obtain the county receiving-agency field. Search the federal docket for the court action and later use BOP when a useful record exists. Describe the event as transfer to federal custody unless the responsible federal record establishes release. A blank county roster and blank BOP result together do not create affirmative proof.

BOP Dates and Federal Credits

BOP says eligible federal prisoners may receive up to 54 days of good-conduct time for each year of the sentence imposed. Qualifying First Step Act time credits can apply toward prerelease custody or supervised release, with no more than twelve months of advance placement into supervised release through those credits. These are federal rules. They must not be mixed with Texas county jail credit or TDCJ good-time law.

Eligibility, earned credits, sanctions, court action, recalculation, detainers, and records review can move a projected date. BOP explains that time in USMS custody does not generate First Step Act credits. A locator date can therefore change or temporarily lag a calculation. The only completed BOP release date is the historical result after the event.

Supervised release is a court-ordered period after imprisonment. It is administered through federal probation, not BOP confinement. A person can be Released from BOP and still owe years of supervised release. Conversely, a person in home confinement has not yet reached BOP release merely because the individual sleeps at an approved residence.

A detainer can also change the destination. BOP release may hand the person to a state, local, or immigration authority. State precisely that the person left BOP custody on the recorded date, then identify any later custody only from its own source.

Note: Released from BOP does not mean free from every jurisdiction, and it does not mark the end of federal supervised release.

Verify BOP Release Evidence

Keep a clear record trail. Save the locator result and access date, record the register number, and compare it with the federal judgment. If a later source conflicts, ask the responsible custodian to correct its own field. A court order proves legal authority, a locator result proves the BOP status it labels, and another agency’s locator proves only that agency’s custody. Keeping those propositions separate prevents one date from becoming a broader claim it cannot support.

For common names, match the register number and at least one other stable field. Do not assume that a person tied to Midland is the same person returned by a national name search. Precise identity and precise status language are both required for a sound federal release record.
